Hi! I'm crystal! I'm an author, content creator, BookTuber & retreat host.
I LOVE reading, writing and travelling. I discovered these passions at a young age, but it wasn't until MUCH later in life that everything came together (finally!) and I combined these loves into a career.
My Story
I started my career in public relations and marketing exploring both the corporate and agency side of the business, but after 8+ years I decided I needed a BIG change. I put job security behind me (much to the horror of many) and moved to Jakarta, Indonesia to teach English as a Second Language. Well...this little detour was the BEST thing I have ever done!
The Books
Living abroad ignited my passion for writing as well as kept my travel bug nourished. Upon my return to Canada, I wrote two novels. Beauty Beneath the Banyan (BBTB), which was published by Inanna Publications, in 2012 (Yay!).
My manuscript Tears from the Sea was longlisted for the 2021 Guernica Literary Prize for Fiction. I'm currently reworking Tears and have two children's books that need some attention. (Soooo please cross your fingers for me.)

ALL ABOUT CANADIAN BOOKS
A global pandemic forced me out of my comfort zone and now I'm a YouTuber (I did not see this one coming). To amplify Canadian literary talent, on all about canadian books (AACB) I interview new and established Canadian authors, who are published by Canadian independent publishers and Canadian trade presses.
It's so fun to get to know the author's story and the story behind their book. I think this makes a book even more interesting.

The Story Comes Together
Fast forward (I'm not even going to tell you how many years), but there's been more marketing roles, working at the local school board at the Newcomer Welcome Centre and International Student Program, freelance writing, social media management gigs and book publicity for a small Canadian press.
It's been a fantastic journey that has transported me around the globe and back home to Canada. I'm thrilled to have landed in the world of books.

Before I conclude my story (for now), I would like to say...anytime I've taken a risk, the results have made me VERY happy. And I'm always dreaming about my next adventure!
