Get To Know Canadian AuthorsWelcome back! It's the 3rd season of all about canadian books! Behind every book is a talented writer and a great story. That's why we're here to get to know the author's story and the story behind their book. To me, discovering this is what makes a FANTASTIC book even more interesting. Today's guest is Brad Smith. Brad Smith is an internationally acclaimed award-winning novelist and screenwriter who has 14 books under his belt, his latest Copperhead Road was published by At Bay Press. OK...without further ado let's get to know Brad. Brad Discusses Copperhead RoadIf you're looking for a fast read, then look no further. Cooperhead Road has gangsters, moonshine and fast cars! And my favourite...intelligent, resourceful and gutsy protagonist Ava Flagg. Watch Brad expand upon the premise of his novel, discuss where the story concept originated and how, "To live outside the law, you must be honest," applies to this novel. Thanks SO much for watching. Stay tuned for new episodes, they're posted on Tuesday's and Thursday's, the 2nd and 4th week of every month.

Get To Know... Let's get to know award-winning journalist, author, conservationist and bookseller Ian Gill. Ian is a founding partner of Salmon Nation and former president of Ecotrust. He worked as a writer and broadcaster for CBC Television, where he won numerous awards for his documentary reporting. He lives on an island in the unceded territory of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth people on the west coast of British Columbia; and occasionally in Vancouver, where he is co-founder of the independent bookstore Upstart & Crow. Let's learn more about Ian, watch him answer 10 quick questions. I wish I lived closer. I would love to visit Ian's VERY cool bookstore Upstart & Crow on Granville Island, Vancouver, British Columbia. For the curious readers, Ian recommends Peace and Good Order: The Case For Indigenous Justice in Canada by the late Harold R. Johnson as a book all Canadians should read. All That We Say Is OursHaida Gwaii, the ancient territory of the Haida people, is a West Coast archipelago famous for its wild beauty and rich species diversity. But that natural bounty, since European contact, has also been a magnet for industry. In the mid-1970s, the Haida rallied with environmentalists to end the logging of their monumental old-growth forests—and to reassert their title and rights to their homeland. In 2004, the Haida laid claim to their entire traditional territory: the land, seabed and waters of Haida Gwaii. It was an audacious move, and one that set a benchmark for indigenous rights around the world. In All That We Say Is Ours: Guujaaw and the Reawakening of the Haida Nation, Ian Gill tells this incredible story of political and cultural renaissances from the early days to the present. The many setbacks, amazing victories and landmark legal decisions. Watch Ian discuss how Guujaaw—artist, orator, strategist and four-term president of the Council of the Haida Nation and Haida Gwaii inspires him. All That We Say Is Ours: Guujaaw and the Reawakening of the Haida Nation is published by Douglas & McIntyre.
