Are you kidding me?
OK...time for my latest rant. I'm still upset about the ongoing wolf cull in our country; the way we humans treat each other and our environment and, it would appear we NEVER EVER learn. I must confess I'm embarrassed to say I missed our lovely Ontario government's latest 'delight' back in April and now that it's on my radar, I've hit the roof and bounced back up and down a few times. I can't believe that our lovely Ontario government wants to let developers pay a fee in lieu of taking certain actions to protect endangered species.
But it's OK.. because according to Rod Phillips the Environment Minister applicants could pay a regulatory charge instead of completing "some of the more onerous and lengthy requirements of a permit."
Well geez...we wouldn't want to inconvenience our developers when there's 243 species in Ontario at risk. If that wasn't bad enough Phillips goes on to add:
"But let me be clear: applicants would still be required to take the necessary steps to minimize adverse effects. This payment is not, by any means, an opportunity for businesses to walk away. It is an opportunity for an increased efficiency and a more strategic focus on how we preserve species and their habitat."
Oooooh brother!!! I can read between the lines thank you very much and, of course those who specialize in protecting our environment more than understand the implications. According to Environmentalist Groups--Ontario Nature, the David Suzuki Foundation and Environmental Defence the proposed changes to Ontario's Endangered Species Act is "regressive and dangerous."
Time for Ontarians to be Heard
I do not understand...we cannot continue to develop at the expensive of our environment and wildlife. Well, dear Mr. Phillips and our lovely wise Ontario government...I'm adding my name to the petition to maintain Ontario's Endangered Species Act.
